Pacey – Knocking On Your Door

Never having heard of the name Pacey before, I must admit as a Reggae devote that I was completely caught off guard. It was however a very pleasant surprise, one that got me writing again. Pacey is synonymous with vintage Reggae, dropping two marvellous albums Knocking On Your Door and Gideon Suit in recent years. When you have a great recipe there’s nothing much you need to spice it up with, the core ingredient remains the star of the show. Both albums contribute to that fact and pay homage to the 70’s golden era. Wallen Earl Rickett simply known as Pacey is a Reggae veteran recording artist active since the 70’s and it seems as if he saved the best for last. Born in Jamaica, Pacey relocated to Germany in 2000 and sadly passed away in December 2020 just months after releasing his fourth and final album Gideon Suit. Knocking On Your Door, preceded by the Rasta Pacey Showcase EP, is produced by the talented people at Satta Dub Records in Germany, and is something special. It will fool any serious Roots man, thinking they must have slept through this 70’s gem. Knocking On Your Door has it all. From bubbling rhythms, take “Don’t Call Me” as example, to the rock solid grooves of “Love Divine” or the sweet sweet vibes of “Let Love Guide Your Way“. With this post I hope to change the fact that Pacey has only 83 listeners per month on Spotify. Even if that means we can get it up to just three figures. Right now, the 83 listeners doesn’t do him and his music any justice. His work needs to be heard to be appreciated, and I’m sure once you have a go it will earn your appreciation too.
