It has been a while, but since three days I have been completely overwhelmed by a Dub album carrying the name Reggatta Du Blanc Du Blanc that momentarily knows no equal among my playlist.
I didn’t have to wait very long this year as the second month of 2022 holds a definite contender for favourite new album. I’m normally very careful with making any prophecies and refrain from using “the best” in almost all cases, but Blanc Du Blanc’s newest release is that good. Last time I remember being so captivated by a new Dub album was around the release of Blue Lizzard by Clive Hunt at the end of 2020.
However, I can’t possibly match the enthusiasm of Jim the Boss. So, I’m not even going to try. Instead I’ll keep it short. Reggatta Du Blanc Du Blanc knows no beginning or an end, a expedition through sound that feels to quote Bim Sherman “to be wide awake in the a dream”. It brought me back to the heydays of On-U Sound and for me, sits right in between African Head Charge and Ruts D.C. Rhythm Collision Vol.1 mixed by Mad Professor in terms of soundscape with a dash of Gris-Gris from the Nighttripper. Not to label the music because it travels wide and far in terms of inspiration never settling down in one place. A must-hear for anyone who enjoys music and supports humanity.
